VICTORIA Falls Mayor, Somvelo Dlamini (MDC Alliance) has been arrested by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission officials on allegations of abuse of office by engaging in illicit land dealings especially commercial stands.
The opposition party’s ward 9 councillor, Dhlamini is under investigation for alleged abuse of office through corrupt activities involving the sale of commercial stands.
The Victoria Falls Mayor was taken from his home on Saturday and is still detained at the Victoria Falls police station for further investigations.
Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) Spokesperson, John Makamure said he will only make a detailed comment on Monday after getting finer details on the matter.
Dlamini’s arrest comes at a time the anti-graft body has intensified its drive to cleanse local authorities of corrupt officials.
ZACC has in the recent past reaffirmed its resolve to ensure that no stone is left unturned in the fight against corruption in line with the Second Republic’s stance of zero tolerance to graft.
Victoria Falls residents recently expressed displeasure following the decision by the MDC-led council to effect an 800 percent tariff hike without the approval of the responsible ministry.
The disgruntled ratepayers also took a swipe at the municipality for not prioritising services delivery and sound corporate governance.
