A South Africa based music promoter was allegedly swindled by Ishan last year in September. Sevious Pasipanodya, of SVS International, is demanding his money back, all of the R10 000 that he paid to Ishan.
The Afro-pop artist was supposed to show up for gig dubbed Summer Slam in South Africa but he failed to attend.
Pasipanodya believes that the reason why Ishan could not attend the gig was the fact he did not have a passport, but the musician’s publicist Gamuchirai Chogugudza dismissed that claim. Chogugudza said that Ishan actually failed to attend the gig because of safety concerns.
” Ishan could not attend Summer Slam because we were worried about what was happening in South Africa at that time. It was during the time of Xenophobia attacks, so we could not risk it,”
Pasipanodya revealed that Ishan had agreed on paying back the money, but is yet to settle the debt. When Chogugudza was asked about refunding Pasipanodya, she said that they were still looking into it.
“We are yet to finalise our stance on wether to refund the promoter or there could be some other action that could be taken instead”, she said.
Pasipanodya was not amused by the lack of professionalism from the young upcoming artist.
”I am disappointed with these artists that are lacking professionalism in the music industry. I
had made an agreement with Ishan to come and perform at the show. They agreed to extent that l paid the flight tickets and performance fee, which l cannot disclose now. Surprisingly, he did not show up claiming fear of xenophobia, but the main reason, according to close sources who gave me information, is that his passport was missing at the time he had to travel,” he said.
He went on to say that when artists encounter problems, they should alert the promoters on time so that they can find alternatives.
