President Emmerson Mnangagwa has warned unscrupulous rural district and urban councils against engaging in corrupt activities.
He was speaking during the commissioning of 76 Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (ZUPCO) buses at the large city hall in Bulawayo this Friday
With government moving towards the full implementation of the devolution of power programme, President Emmerson Mnangagwa revealed that the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development will soon review upwards the budgetary allocation for rural and urban councils for use in the development of their areas.
He, however, bemoaned corruption in most local
authorities adding that government and other responsible institutions will leave no stone unturned in curbing the vice.
President Mnangagwa challenged beneficiaries of the public transport system who are set to ply routes in Bulawayo and the two Matabeleland provinces to ensure that they keep the buses in good condition.
President Mnangagwa also revealed that more buses are on the way from Belarus, South Africa and China.
The revamping of the ZUPCO bus company has been warmly welcomed by the commuting public amid skyrocketing public transport costs.
